Sun. March 18th: Arrival and orientation
Participants will land in Israel in the morning and will arrive at the Children’s
Village in the town of Carmiel in the Galilee by noon. First on the agenda is a basic
orientation, including meeting with the leaders of the Children’s village. At around
14:00, participants will meet the kids they will be working with. Everyone will be
associated with a specific family unit. We hope to be able to arrange a few skype
conversations between participants and their respective family units before the
trip.
Mon March 19th: Study Tour to Nazareth and Service work
In the morning we will take the group to the city of Nazareth for a tour of one of
the key sites to Christianity (the Basilica of the Annunciation) and for an overview
of the various faiths and ethnic groups in the area. Following lunch in town, the
group will return to the Children’s village to assist in the delivery of the
computers, begin to tutor students and to help prepare for the family dinners,
etc.
Tues March 20th: Study Tour to the Hula Valley & Service work
The day will begin with an excursion of the Hula swamp to learn about the bird
migration in the region and some of the ecological challenges here. The trip will
include bicycling through the sanctuary and bird watching.
In the afternoon, participants will continue their service work back at the
Children’s village. In the evening, there will be a meeting and discussion with
Israeli high school age teens who live at village.
Wed March 21st Service work at the village
The entire day will be spent in the Children’s village. While the kids are in school,
the participants will do maintenance work or painting. From around 14:00, when
the kids come back from school, there will be tutoring, and dinner preparation
followed by sharing until bedtime.
Thurs March 22nd: Tour study day the Ghetto Fighter’s Kibbutz and Acre
In the morning the group will visit a unique kibbutz in Israel that was established
by the survivors of ghetto uprisings during WWII. The kibbutz contains an
impressive renovated museum and educational center on the Holocaust.
After touring the kibbutz, the participants will visit the city of Acre, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site, containing the largest concentration in the world of medieval
Crusader remains from the 12th and 13th centuries.
Fri March 23rd: Service Work in the Village and Preparation for the Sabbath
Today the Macleod family will be arriving. The participants will be continuing the
service work but will also assist the Israelis to prepare and cook the Sabbath meal.
Sat. March 24th: Olivia Macleod’s Bat Mitzvah
The participants will be taking part in Olivia Macleod’s Bat Mitzvah celebrations,
which will include the ceremonies, a lunch and chocolate and marzipan making
workshops.
Sun March 25th: Work day
The participants will visit the public schools which CV students attend. Today, the
volunteers will engage the kids so that the moms can go to a Day Spa for a restful
R & R.
Mon March 26th: Study day
Today, the group will learn about some of the minorities living in the Galilee. This
will include a meeting and dialogue with Israel Arabs, as well as visiting a Druze
village to experience hospitality and a traditional meal.
Evening: Goodbye party at CV.
Tues. March 27th : Study day
Departing early from the village, participants will travel to Tel‐Aviv to spend the
entire day touring and learning about Israel’s cultural and economic center.
Among others, activities will include walking through the center of Old Jaffa with
its 4000 years of history as well as visiting the arts $ crafts market in Nachalat
Binyamin. In the evening, the volunteer will experience eating in pitch dark
conditions, served by blind waiters at a special restaurant in Jaffa.
Wed. March 28th: Study tour day
On the final day of the trip, participants will tour in Jerusalem, focusing on the
importance of the city to the three great monotheistic religions – Judaism,
Christianity and Islam.
Following the full day of touring, there will be a farewell dinner before driving to
the airport for the return flight.
